My family is full of entrepreneurs. My parents have started multiple businesses and currently have a roofing business. My brother and myself are also entrepreneurs. When I was a freshman in high school, my neighbors asked my brother and I to mow their lawn as a favor. Over time, more and more people would see us mowing lawns and we would be referred to other neighbors. Once we had enough customers, we began to advertise with fliers and purchased more equipment to grow. We ended up accumulating over 70 customers whose lawns we took care of 2-4 times a month. This was a very rewarding experience for the both of us and came with the help of our parents.
I enrolled in this course to learn about how I can become a better entrepreneur. I'd like to have my own business someday so I'm hoping this class will help.
Attached is a photo of the mower we used when we first started.
Hi Riley,
ReplyDeleteLove the sense of independence in your family. I think the lawn mowing service was a really great idea. When having a hecked life who has time to mow their yards ?? or thinking about older people who are less efficient as they want to be. This was a great entrepreneur experience and I hope it continues to strive for more success.
Riley,
ReplyDeleteLawncare and landscaping are some of the best ways for high schoolers to get their toes wet when it comes to business. You set your own workload, schedule, prices, and services. You have to market, advertise, and be good enough that people recommend you via word of mouth. It is, in my opinion, the best learning experience for a small business that young adults can go through. Props to you.
Hi Riley,
ReplyDeleteLike you, i started a business in high school when i was a freshman. I remember all the struggles i would go through trying to maintain my business. I find it really cool how you created a landscaping company as a high school kid as i have not met someone who has. Overall, you told a really good story regarding how you first came into contact with entrepreneurship and all that it entails.
Riley,
ReplyDeleteYour experience mowing lawns has prepared you for you in this class and as an entrepreneur. I also mowed lawns when I was younger but never as a business. I hope you succeed in your career as an entrepreneur and that this class furthers your experience.
